Jack Daniels is the cure to all evils.
Sex should be casual and, preferably, anonymous.
Giving a damn is for nurses, philanthropists and suicide hotlines.

My name is Mathew Rogers and those are the values I built my adult life around. They are also the reason I had to forsake everything I loved in Seattle and embark on a solitary road trip across the country, with no direction other than searching for the next small town, the next girl, and the closest liquor store.

Boredom, frustration and a series of unfortunate decisions led me to the rickety-ass town of Jolene, Alabama—a town I wanted to leave behind from the moment I passed the welcome sign. But it was there where I met her. The girl who made me question everything I’ve always believed in, and the only one who has ever had the power to break my heart.

Her name is Lexie.
She’s beautiful, and I’m pretty sure she hates me.
And for once in my life, I give enough of a damn that I keep finding a reason to stay

"A Day in the Life of ... Patti Maximi"

Although every day is different, my writing days usually follow the same pattern. I wake up around nine thirty, put some comfy clothes on and go downstairs to prepare some yummy breakfast for me and my husband—pancakes and OJ for him, homemade bread with hummus and English breakfast tea with almond milk for me. Once he’s out the door and on his way to work I take care of my fur-babies and catch up on my emails, messages and Facebook. I also write updates for my blog and promo things—like this post.

Once I’m done with all of that, I refill my cup of tea, put some music on, sit down on my favorite chair at my dining table with my cat Lucky on my lap and start working. My writing sessions always start by reading what I wrote the day before, it helps me to remember where I left things off and to get back into my character’s mind frame. From then on I get lost in the story and type away.

Although I stop a few times to get more tea, my first real break is around two thirty in the afternoon when my husband comes back home for lunch. That’s one my favorite times of day, I love talking to him about what I’m writing and brainstorming ideas.
After lunch I do some house chores, sometimes chat with friends and then relax a little with some yoga before getting back to the computer and my fictional people. With only one tiny break for some tea, I write until I reach my daily goal of two thousand words or around seven thirty p.m., whichever comes first.

Then I walk the dogs, cook dinner, take a shower and hang out on the couch with my husband until around eleven when it’s time for bed and getting ready to do it all over again the next day.
